04/24/2007: "FIGHT UPDATE"
Hi All,
Here's the press release I got from Sarah, my publicist at Soho the other day. My opponent, Jonathan Ames, has got to be the world's only Guggenheim Fellow / part-time pornstar.
The press release follows in the [more] section.
All best, Craig.
Soho Press Proudly Presents.
CRAIG "The Crippler" DAVIDSON
Vs.
JONATHAN "The Herring Wonder" AMES
July 27th, 2007 at Hudson River Park's Pier 54
Part of Church Street Boxing's FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHT series
The Event:
This summer, two authors will battle it out on the banks of the Hudson
River. Jonathan "The Herring Wonder" Ames - local New York author of
books such as Wake Up, Sir! and I Love You More than You Know - is
coming out of retirement after eight years to battle first time
novelist, Craig "The Crippler" Davidson, author of THE FIGHTER (Soho
Press; July 2007; $24.00).
This will take place as part of FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS, the New York
series put on by Church Street Boxing, in which amateur fighters have
been battling it out since 1997.

The Contenders:
Craig Davidson was born in Toronto and currently lives in Calgary,
Alberta.
He is the author story collection, Rust and Bone. In order to
realistically portray steroid use in his novel, THE FIGHTER, Craig
embarked on a journey into the world of illegal steroid use - a trip
that helped him reach 240 pounds but left him with possibly
irreversible damage to his body. He has since lost his steroid weight
gain and will box at 165. Craig fought an amateur boxing match to
promote the Canadian release of THE FIGHER, fighting as "The Crippler."

Man, and Wake Up, Sir!, and the essay collections What's Not to Love?,
My Less Than Secret Life, and I Love You More Than You Know. He is the
editor of Sexual Metamorphosis: An Anthology of Transsexual Memoirs. He
is the winner of a Guggenheim Fellowship and is a former columnist for
New York Press. He had a one-man show off-off-Broadway, entitled
"Oedipussy." Mr. Ames had the lead role in the IFC film "The Girl Under
the Waves" and was a porn-extra in the porn film "C-Men." He has had
one amateur boxing match, fighting as "The Herring Wonder."
