07/27/2009: "The Double Life is Twice as Good"
Hi All,
A quick plug for Jonathan Ames' new book, which is out now.
www.amazon.com/Double-Life-Twice-Good-Fiction/dp/1439102333/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qidhttp://www.amazon.com/Double-Life-Twice-Good-Fiction/dp/1439102333/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1248711192&sr=8-1=1248711192&sr=8-1
Not that the guy needs a plug. He's riding quite a hot streak right now, and well deserved at that. I'd read some of Ames' work before I fought him, but I've read nearly all of it now. He's fantastic, and probably the most important aspect of his writing, something that I took from him and have been striving into my own work, is that no matter how sordid his subject matter, he is always compassionate.
Apparently this book includes an account of our fight. You can read it and perhaps juxtapose it with my own account, which may or may not ever be published. Anyway, I'm sure Jonathan left out the part where he met me at the airport the next morning when I was trying to fly out like a whipped dog and beat me up AGAIN, right there in the departures terminal, then kissed his girlfriend Fiona Apple and said:
"Youse stay out of the Big Apple from now on, punk!"
Oh, what a hideous bit of happenstance! The Sbarro cashier's vile laughter still echoes in my ears!
All best, Craig.
